Xiaocong Guo

PhD Student

Xiaocong is pursuing her PhD at the UBC School of Population and Public Health and holds an MSc in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene and a BSc in Microbiology and Immunology, also from UBC. Her research focuses on the effect of extreme heat on heat-related illness and injury among workers, and the identification of at-risk workers to be prioritized for policy and practice in BC. During her time with PWHS, she will extend the analysis of a pilot project that generated evidence to protect the health of workers during heat waves in BC. She holds a WorkSafeBC Research Training Award for 2022-24.

Chizitara Nkwopara

MSc Student

Chizitara is pursuing her MSc in Occupational and Environmental Hygiene at the UBC School of Population and Public Health and holds a BSc in Physiology. Prior to joining the Partnership, Chizi worked as a health and safety officer in the oil and gas and construction industries. She looks forward to exploring projects focused on injury prevention and return to work in the construction sector.

Kimberly Sharpe

PhD Student

Kimberly is pursuing her PhD in the UBC School of Population and Public Health. Her dissertation research focuses on regional variation in hospital admissions, surgeries, physician visits, and diagnostic tests in in workers’ compensation systems in BC, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, and New Brunswick. Her research will lead to a better understanding of differences in access to health care and the impact these differences may have on disability duration and return-to-work outcomes. Prior to joining the Partnership, Kimberly worked in injury research and neuroethics. She holds a BA in Anthropology and History and MA in Social Dimensions of Health from the University of Victoria.
